Fractional technical direction · from CHF 1'500/month

Too small for a CTO, too complex to go without one.

One to two days a month, someone whose job is to settle the technical questions for you — and to read what your other providers are charging you.

What it covers

This is the role we already play, for free, at a lot of our clients. Naming it and charging for it changes the relationship: you can call before you decide, not after.

Technical decisions and tool choices

Which tool, which option, which moment. You ask, you get a reasoned answer — and the option we ruled out is explained too.

Reviewing your providers' quotes

Is the CHF 40,000 quote fair? What are you actually paying for, what's already covered elsewhere, what's missing? This line alone often pays for the retainer.

Tracking technical debt and risk

What is ageing, what is going to break, what makes you dependent on a single vendor or a single person. Tracked over time, not discovered on the day it fails.

Technical counterpart to your vendors

We speak to your hosts, software vendors and agencies in their own language. You stop being the go-between for two parties whose language you don't speak.

How it works

  1. 1. A read on where you stand

The first month is about understanding what you have, who does what, and where the risks are. A technical consultation does this well and is deducted from the first month.

  2. 2. A monthly rhythm

One to two days a month, split as needed: a fixed check-in, and the rest reactive when a decision comes up.

  3. 3. Available between check-ins

A question blocking a decision doesn't wait for the monthly check-in. You write, we answer within two business days.

  4. 4. A review twice a year

Where technical debt stands, what was avoided, what comes next. And if the role has stopped being useful, we say so.

Who this is for

  • Companies spending regularly on technical work with nobody to judge what they are buying
  • Companies working with several providers and ending up as referee between them
  • Owners making technical decisions by default, for lack of anyone better placed

Who this is not for

  • If you need someone to execute rather than someone to decide — that's maintenance
  • If you already have an in-house technical lead: we'd likely duplicate their role rather than help
